Victorian Heritage Week Programme Now Available

Oamaru’s annual Victorian Heritage Celebration is just over a month away, taking place this year from 14 to 18 November. This is one of the town’s biggest events, bringing people from all over New Zealand and from overseas to experience the town’s unique intact 19th century streets in a way that replicates how it would have looked back in the days of Queen Victoria. There are numerous events of all descriptions all throughout the event, including penny farthing races, parades, high teas, readings, and dances, all culminating on Sunday with the Victorian Fete, where the historic precinct is completely given over to a 19th century-style street market, complete with performers, kiosks selling a wide variety of goods, and of course lots of food and drink to sample.

This year’s theme will be Charles Dickens, whose bicentennial year this is, so there will be a number of Dickensian events to attend, in addition to the usual good fun.

The programme can be downloaded from the Victorian Heritage Celebration‘s site, or you can click here and get it directly. We hope to see you then!
