Scheduled flights may be returning to Oamaru after a three-year absence if plans announced today by Dunedin’s Mainland Air come to fruition. Under the current plan, flights would commence on Friday, 19 October, between Oamaru and Christchurch International Airport, with flights operating on Fridays and Sundays. If demand warrants, these flights could be extended to other days of the week, and possibly would link Oamaru with other towns, too.
According to Mainland Air, the flight would be operated by a 10-seat plane, and would reduce the time needed to get from Oamaru to Christchurch from three hours by road to just 35 minutes. If you would like to express your support for this new service, please contact Mainland Air directly.
