Oamaru Dawn Raid on 26 August

The North Otago Aero Club will be hosting the annual Oamaru Dawn Raid at the Oamaru Airfield on Sunday, 26 August 2012 from 6am. Air clubs from all around the South Island of New Zealand have been invited to participate, and they are expecting several dozen planes, and many more people, to come in and vie for prizes, show off their flying skills, and then enjoy a good old time among flight enthusiasts from around the area.

Among the competitions will be a race to be the first to arrive at the air field (which means that only those pilots with nighttime flying credentials are eligible), best landing, best “forced” landing, and even precision bombing–though they will be using bags of flour rather than incendiary devices!

This promises to be a great day out, and with the weather forecast to be fine and warm, it’ll be great fun for pilots and landlubbers alike!
