Last night Oamaru hosted the first annual “Oamaru on Fire” festival, which also served as the kick-off for the traditional Queen’s Birthday weekend Steampunk Festival. Oamaru on Fire took over Harbour Street in the historic precinct, with three stages providing all sorts of entertainment, along with street performers, fire breathers, masquerades, and more. I don’t think I have ever seen so many people out at night here, all having a fantastic time and enjoying the huge range of attractions on offer. And what’s more, there was the added treat of seeing a number of people in full Steampunk regalia making their way among the crowd, providing fodder for photos and for the news crews that were in town to cover the action.
The photos below give you an idea of what the evening was like, but do nothing to convey the fun that everyone had. Plan to come to Oamaru next year for the second running!
