Oamaru Blue Penguin Report, 25 – 31 Jan 2012

ImageEvery evening at around dusk the Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony holds an evening viewing session, where guests can watch the world’s smallest penguins return to their nests for the night. Every night someone counts the birds as they come ashore for one hour (measured from the arrival of the first penguins), and this number is released the next morning. As an example, here are the numbers of penguins that came in during the last week:

Birds home 25 Jan: 158

Birds home 26 Jan: 160

Birds home 27 Jan: 134

Birds home 29 Jan: 171

Birds home 31 Jan: 115
