Wings Over the Waitaki

The scenery of Oamaru and the Waitaki District is beautiful at ground level, there is no question. Visitors to the area are always stunned by the sheer beauty of our little corner of New Zealand, but if you want to be truly stunned by the incredible nature that surrounds us, then you owe it to yourself to take a flight over the area.

The North Otago Aero Club provides you with just such an opportunity! Locally owned and operated, NOAC offers not just a chance to get a bird’s eye view of the scenery of the Waitaki District, but you can even try your hand at flying, since NOAC also offers flight lessons.

Central Otago

An hour-long flight in NOAC’s Cessna 172 can take in such sights as central Oamaru, the Moeraki Boulders, and the beaches of Kakanui, or you can head upriver toward Kurow, Omarama and the Elephant Rocks for a view of the incredible braided Waitaki River and its several dams (as in the photo at the top of this post). Longer flights can also be arranged, taking you as far as Central Otago’s Wanaka, Queenstown and the Southern Alps. NOAC also offers flights to Stewart Island, giving you a perfect chance to explore this beautiful corner of NZ, too.

Learn more about NOAC by reading their new blog, which you can read here, and you can like them on Facebook, too. Happy flying!!
