Welcome to Oamaru!

Oamaru Street Scene

Congratulations! You’ve found your way to one of the most amazing little corners of one of the most amazing countries on Earth — the beautiful town of Oamaru, New Zealand! We have lived in Oamaru for a short time, but in that time we have come to love this place very deeply, both for its incredible scenery and for its incomparable combination of history, nature, and culture.

When we first caught sight of the building that was to become our home in Oamaru, the Category-One historic home of Pen-y-bryn Lodge, we knew right away that we had found what we had been looking for for nearly a decade — a house that could serve as a destination for discerning travellers from around the world who want to enjoy a high level of hospitality together with some exquisite cooking, all in an atmosphere of refinement and elegance. It was an added bonus that the town itself has so much going for it that people from all over would find something to interest them.

This little blog aims to acquaint people from all corners of our globe with the wonderful town of Oamaru, so that whether you’re planning a visit to New Zealand or are an armchair traveller you can experience a bit of what caused us to decide to make Oamaru our home. We hope you’ll come by often!

  1. Hello, This Fall, my husband and I are travelling to Australia and New Zealand on a 33-day Princess cruise. Unfortunately, Oamaru is not one of the stops. Thank you for your blog that I can be an armchair traveler who can experience a bit of your city by the sea. Fae. 🙂

Sorry you won’t make it to Oamaru, but I am sure you will have a lovely time in New Zealand, one of the world’s most incredible countries! Maybe you’ll even be so enthralled by your trip that you’ll come again!!
